Music overload

06.11.12

I won tickets to see Yuna and Graffitti6 perform and Vinyl. Never heard of either artists but after seeing them live, I am in LOVE with them.

Yuna is a Malaysian songbird. Her sound is kinda indie/pop. I can’t even say which song I love from Yuna’s album. Every song is good. And she is such a personable person! My friend Nykita and I tried taking pictures with her several times and she was patient through it all. Awesome chic.

But if I have to pick a song based off the lyrics alone, it would be Decorate.

Graffitti6 was toooo sick! They are like….Marvin Gaye, mixed with the psychedelic feel of the 70s and Amy Winehouse all rolled in one. These European lads love soulful American style music for sure.

If I had to pick, my favorite song is Over You. The lead singer is dreamy beyond words and has a voice as smooth as wine. Also, they do an amazing cover of the Bee Gees tune To Love Somebody.

Listened to a few artists at Atlanta Live at Park Tavern. My favorite was The Voice’s contestant, Mathai. That girl has such a cute and light vibe. Love.

I Love Atlanta.

Archel’s trunk show

It was my pleasure to support a friend and Liberian designer, Archel Bernard again, at her trunk show over the weekend. I bought and wore a beautiful print dress called The Vivian. Love love love.

The lovely Miss Archel.

It seems that America has caught the tribal bug and it’s surely in style. Support local business owners like Archel bringing you authentic designs straight from Liberia. Check out her site for more photos from this event.

Weekend at a glance: #SBOC12 #44

What do you call a weekend with fabulously dressed women speaking about blogging? A damn good time is what I call it! This past weekend, I attended the first annual Style Bloggers of Color conference, also known as #Mattiepalooza.

So there’s this wonderful woman named Mattie, who figured, hey, Atlanta doesn’t have a style bloggers conference. Gasp! So she created one and we thank her for it.

Friday night, we kicked it off with a fashion show, then an all day conference on Saturday with amazing speakers and finally a brunch on Sunday with the lovely Claire Sulmers of The Fashion Bomb Daily. Google her.

Since this is just a re-cap, I will not post every picture I took. Plus, you should’ve been there! ;) There’s always next year.

Tavia, my lacefront, had to make a special appearance.

A wealth of information from our awesome panelists.

Fly girls. Jessica, Fly Won and Jillian.

My shirt was a hit.

These chics rock! Danica, KristenKim and Mae.

The gorgeous ladies at my table for brunch. Jarette, Parker, Stephanie, Jillian and Dominique.

*squeal* Claire Sulmers, ladies and gentleman.

Thank you SO MUCH, Mattie! I had a blast.

Weekend at a glance: a new experience #43

I’ve noticed that my blog has become more pictures than words. Funny enough, I have about 28 posts pending. But…I’m lazy and I think they may be irrelevant at this point.

A reader told me she missed my “wordy” posts. Wait, did I write this already? I can’t remember. Have you noticed a change in my blog? What would you like to see more of? What would make you feel more included?

I wish I could make my pictures come to life. I try to pick the ones that display the most action. Not to make you jealous…or anything like that. :)

So this weekend began the month-long challenge of doing one thing everyday. Friday night, I attended a spoken word production called Destinations, at Destiny Metro Worship Church. The subject matter was all about social injustice. If you’re ever in town when these young people are performing, you should check it out.

Saturday, I went indoor rock climbing for the first time ever. It was so much fun!!! I really enjoy outdoor activities, even pseudo ones. My friend Whitney and I eventually became professionals at the sport.

But it wasn’t easy in the beginning. I really had to use my brain!

This is the beautiful time of year in Atlanta for every kind of festival known to man. I attended the Virginia Highland Summerfest. What does that even mean? Just art, live music, beer and food. Basically a good time.

Sunday, I took myself to brunch at the yummy Ria’s Bluebird. I can’t wait to get my bluebird tattoo.

PS. I’ve finally stopped feeling the pain from rock climbing. This must be a sign that I should work out regularly. But I highly doubt I will.

Bloggers and Bubbly

Last night I attended an event about social media and blogging, hosted by the Atlanta Style Bloggers. I’ve had this blog for over two years and I’m still having a difficult time figuring out what useful and valuable information I can blog about for my readers. It’s always refreshing to hear what succesful bloggers do to keep their blogs relevant.

Some great advice I heard from the panel:

“Invest in the look of your blog.” -@FashionNextDoor

“With outfit posts, it can get stale, so look for ways to incorporate different things into your posts.” @FashionNextDoor

“Bloggers want to be a part of your blog.”

“You can have the best blog in the world, but it must look like it!” -@Mattieologie

The panelist included Mattie of Mattieologie, Cath of AsianCajuns, Eboni of Fashionista Next Door and Cathy of Poor Little It Girl.

I don’t think I’ve ever taken a photo with Miss Mattie.

It’s crazy how much MiMi looks like my mom!!!

I adored Nia’s outfit!

If only I could’ve captured the adorable bow in Cathy’s hair. Fabulous.

Patternsss.
