Summing it up pt 2: 30 x 30

Alright, so here goes. This was definitely a challenge. I took way too much time trying to create outfits for each outing nearly two months!). I just thought, hey, it’s Summertime, who wants to wear clothes. That made figuring out what to wear in the evenings a bit tricky. BUT, it did help me to become even more creative. I was able to show my personal style. Not what the trends were saying that was in style for the moment. What I wear makes sense to ME and I think that’s all that really matters when it comes to style. What you like and how you like to wear it, that is your personal style.

I’ll give this challenge more thought and coordinate my outfits better in the Fall. But that’ll be my last time participating in the challenge.

Summing it up pt 1: 30 x 30

I’m FINALLY done with this challenge! I’ve had so many road blocks with posting but NOW THAT I HAVE MY MACBOOK!!!!!!!!………I can post everything that I wasn’t able to. Here goes.

7.24.11 Day Party at Loca Luna

F21 shorts, H&M tank, Target flats. And special appearance by my thrifted hat.

Outfit 23 is posted here.

8.4.11 So I had free passes to see Planet of the Apes. Needless to say, it didn’t work out. I ended up sneaking into two other movies with my friend. About the outfit. I saw Kendi use a scarf as a jacket. Thought I would give it a try. :)

Print dress: F21, Black tights & boots: Target

8.6.11 My friend and I suck at vintage shopping. So we made another attempt to delve into the world of thrifting. I follow the owner of Sherane’s Vintage Closet on Twitter and her shop is just DARLING. I need to visit again. But can I say that I’ll remember this day forever? It rained CATS AND DOGS. And oh how I hate lightning. Imagine me running, under TREES, under my umbrella….SCREAMING at every bolt of lightning. My friend found great joy in this. [My friend: top left, Store owner, Sherane: bottom right]

Top: Wet Seal, Shorts: Marshall's, Pumps: Nine West

8.7.11 My friend Jodine hosted a listening party at Mood’s Music for musical artist, Zo. To view more pics, click here.

Top & Shorts: F21, Flats: Target

8.11.11 So…I didn’t go anywhere in this outfit. This was my “playing dress up and calling on the spirit of Lady GaGa mixed with Katy Perry” night. I’m sure that’s the only place an outfit like this would be accepted without strange stares. It’s coo-coo looking but makes so much sense to me. P.S. I didn’t know Picnik gave all these editing choices!!! [Dress worn as shirt & skirt & Wrap: H&M, Pumps: Nine West]

8.13.11 I had brunch with my friend Bessie (and her daughter) and my tweep and now friend and fellow blogger, Jennifer (and her son). It’s always good to put a face to a picture. [Dress worn as shirt: H&M, Cardigan: Target, Jeans: Marshall's, Shoes: Steve Madden]

8.14.11 I missed church. Not really but the traffic was too bad (mega church) so I turned around and went shopping instead. Judge me harshly. [Tank, jeans and flats: Target]

8.15.11 I’M FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Dress: F21, Wrap: H&M, Shoes: Steve Madden]

I will recap in another post. For now, I must breathe.

Heart of haiti bracelet

As a Haitian-American young woman, I cannot help but be devastated every time I see the suffering of my people in Haiti. I can’t do much but the little I can do helps a lot. So I’m doing what I know how to do: spread the word. I was graciously given a gift from the ladies at @HEARTofHAITI on Twitter. I was SO excited when I received my package. I literally wear this bracelet every other day.

What is Heart of Haiti, you ask?

  • Heart of Haiti (HOH) is a for profit, “Trade not Aid” initiative that allows artisans to earn income with dignity and provide for their families.  The artists, both men and women, use the money they earn for basic nutrition, healthcare and education.
  • The Heart of Haiti collection is part of the Macy’s ‘Shop For A Better World’ initiative which also includes ‘Path to Peace’, a collection of hand-woven baskets made by women artisans in Rwanda.
  • Most items in the collection cost between $10 and $60. Heart of Haiti products are made entirely of recycled or sustainable materials such as oil drums, cement bags and local gommier wood. The collection includes papier-mache vases, bowls, metabowls, jewelry, wall art, canvas prints and more.

  • My bracelet was made by a collective of artists called the ‘Atelier Artisans’, located in downtown Port-au-Prince, who work with leftover horn and bone transforming them into luxurious home decor and jewelry pieces.  With the minimal and very basic tools they have, these artists carve and finish each piece by hand. The opportunity to design for the US market is very exciting for these artists and their hope is to rebuild their workshops as their business grows internationally.
  • Despite the devastation, Haiti is a country which thrives on its rich tradition in art and culture; Haitians want to work and find economic empowerment. Macy’s joined forces with Fairwinds Trading and Brand Aid (funded by the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund) to launch the Heart of Haiti program.

Fashionable atlanta blogger meet up

07.23.11

What an event. Honestly, I really can’t say much without making you jealous for not being there. But I will say this: it was WELL put together! Fashionable Atlanta, started by blogger, Eboni of Fashionista Next Door decided to have a meet up with all of the local fashionistas and bloggers. This event was held at Envy’s Pretty Party in Atlanta’s historic Little Five Points (L5P). Now I go to L5P all the time but I never thought to step into this boutique. And what a mistake! Who knew one shop could have so many different fabulous finds. From clothes to shoes to makeup to a salon. YES PLEASE! And the gift bag? FORGET IT! I’ve never attended an event where the gift bag got me all the way hype. As well as being in the presence of so many awesome ladies.

I think that’s enough chatter for now. Admire my photos. Click on the links. Watch my video and spread the word. Why? Because you won’t want to miss the next event. Check out the blog and Facebook fan page and make sure you like it.

The girl with the tattoo

A week ago I told you all that one of the things I wanted to do on my mini living list was to get a tattoo. Well I finally got it. The design means “follow your heart”.

Shoes: Steve Madden, Dress: F21, Wrap: H&M; Necklace: gift from my Kenyan family ^__^

I’m proud to say that I designed it myself. *pats back* And a few people (including N’Dambi who I had breakfast with on Saturday!!! I had no idea who she was but I knew her song) said they loved it.

Thanks to Keila, Kwajelyn, Jen, Nagzah, Deanna and Shayla for the support and also getting tattoos! I’d upload the video but I don’t think my profanity is appropriate for the web. It didn’t hurt, really. Lasted all of three minutes. That wasn’t enough time to hurt.

But I will say, tattoos are addictive. I definitely want a few more, when my pocketbook allows. :)

Haute hair lounge

On July 21st, my friend Arkeedah celebrated her one year anniversary of being a natural-haired girl at Lenox Mall. There were cupcakes, natural products and make up artists on hand for this Haute event. Congrats, Arkeedah! Visit her website for more photos from the event.

Miss Arkeedah

The infamous bathroom shot

I feel like I’ve been doing this challenge FOREVERRR! Sigh.

I know everyone hates the bathroom pictures but seriously, the lighting in there is amazing! So shout out to all the folks who regularly use bathroom pictures in place of proper shots. Oh, and shout out to the poses. You know you do these!

Shorts: F21, Tank and Shoes: Target

And when you’re just having too much fun with a self-timer…

Tights on a hot summer day, no bueno

Floral top & belt: F21, shorts: Marshall's, tights: Urban Outfitters, Boots: Target

I finally got out of the house last week Thursday. Unfortunately, it was on one of the hottest nights of the week that I decided to wear tights. But really, it made sense. I hadn’t shaved my legs and I hate lotioning up so….yea. I opted for the boots instead of sandals because I wanted to look edgy, lol.

And because I really love my Stila matte lipstick…

And because I just like taking random pictures, especially when i get to use the MAC…

 Have a great weekend,

Weekend at a glance: a brown theme #28

After church yesterday, I decided I would take my handy-dandy tripod and make two outfit posts in one day. The first set is my church outfit. So grateful to attend a church that doesn’t look down on me if I’m not dressed in my Sunday’s Best.

H&M top & bag, jeans from Marshall's, Steve Madden shoes

Then, I changed to run around town with my friend. I totally forgot to take my pictures so I had to set up shop in the hallway at my apartment :O

Oh, I decided to add this yellow sweater. I told you guys how I didn’t plan any of my outfits ahead of time. I realized that I added too many sleeveless tops. So…I added on. Don’t judge me. This is my challenge. :)

H&M bag, Target sweater, F21 dress & belt, Steve Madden shoes

Notice how I kept my shoes and bags the same? You see what I did there? No? Me neither. I just hate carrying a lot of stuff.
