FBFF: Body Image

Our image of ourselves are often skewed by the media and what it deems beautiful. Our little girls grow up thinking that if they are not a size zero, no one could possibly love them. It’s so unfortunate that we don’t love ourselves enough to see the beauty in our bodies.

1. Since you started blogging has your image of yourself changed?

It hasn’t, really. I’ve never been one to let others opinions of me change how I feel about myself. I think it’s a brave thing, especially beauty/fashion bloggers, that can posts pictures of themselves for the world to see everyday. That’s confidence.

2. Are you self-conscious about any aspect of yourself? If so, do you go out of your way to avoid it or do you post it/talk about it anyway?

Yes, I don’t like that my arms are so skinny. I hate that people remind me of how tiny I am (and continue to blab about how fat they are in comparison to me). It’s annoying. I see myself everyday. I know how petite I am so I don’t need a reminder. It’s also annoying that because I’m so small, people mistake me for a kid. Not cool. But it’s been done so many times that I just brush it off.

I wish I could gain 10-15lbs. I’ve been 94lbs for over ten years and nothing (and I mean nothing), works. So I gave up on it. I’ve accepted the fact that I have a high metabolism. I’ve tried to gain weight, it hasn’t worked, so I’ve moved on from that. I talk about myself all the time. If I beat the naysayers to it, what else can they pick on me for? 😉

3. Based on how you are feeling now, what do you think the future holds in the evolution of your body image?

It only gets better from here! Sexy, sexy. 😀

4. Do you photograph yourself for your blog? If so, how do you feel about the experience when you’re having your picture taken? If you choose not to post pictures of yourself, what prompted that decision?

I take my own pictures and I don’t have a problem with it. Actually, I take an excessive amount of pictures of myself (I spare you all of the ones that didn’t make the cut) so that’s the easy part. I was recently photographed by a friend and that was a little weird. Someone is staring AT you, constantly. You don’t know what they’re thinking. You don’t know how they feel. But, that shouldn’t change/affect how you feel about yourself.

5. What would you want every person who struggles with body image to take to heart?

Love yourself the way you are, where you are. There’s a beauty in that confidence that shines far brighter than anyone can say negatively about you.

  1. I feel you on the skinniness factor. I have been 97 pounds since I was a senior in high school (17 years ago). It took me a very long time not to feel self-conscious about how thin I am, and I still catch myself being self-conscious about it in certain situations. I also still find myself getting annoyed with women who use the term “skinny b****”, even though I know I should just brush it off. I’m good with my body now, most of the time. It was nice to read this and know someone else has gone through the same kind of stuff. 🙂

  2. It’s taken me years to become comfortable with my body. It’s ironic because I’m tall and thin and women tend to think that’s the end all be all, but it’s not. If you insist on not be happy with your physical appearance, then you won’t be, no matter how many people tell you that you’re beautiful. I love your advice for women who struggle with body image, self-love and confidence are everything.
