This morning, I desperately wanted a burger. Then I remembered that I no longer eat red meat. And then I wanted to cry. I was vegan for six days before becoming pescatarian. It really was and is one of the best decisions I’ve made in life. But when you are seeking a healthy lifestyle change, your habits have to change as well. Because my habits didn’t match the lifestyle, I felt like a juice cleanse was necessary. Enter Vitamin G2 Vitality.
I enjoy the quiet days and lack of plans of my weekends. There’s something great in choosing not to participate in all of the many things going on around you.
I’ve gone back to staying home on Fridays and making it a movie night. I’ve also gone back to Saturday worship services. I occasionally attend [now] Progression Church. It’s small (how I like it) and focused on the Word. No pomp and circumstance, no frills, genuine worship and people. I was not prepared for the sudden dip in temperature, though. I still haven’t forgiven Atlanta for skipping over Summer. I couldn’t take it if my favorite season did see the light either. But we did manage to take a few pics. Keep your eye out for these dudes on the blog very soon.
I love John Mayer. I really love John Mayer. But with mere hours until his concert in Atlanta on Friday night, I could not decide whether I wanted to go. It was a combination of things. One, I just didn’t want to spend $90 and two, I didn’t want to go alone. So by the end of my work day, I decided to save my pennies and see one of my favorite artists another time. It was such a hard decision to make, really. Ugh, I don’t even want to write about it anymore.
Saturday, I met up with my no-nonsensical and now pregnant friend Kalina for brunch at West & Mill. Random: it’s weird to see how everyone has grown up. From college parties and all-nighters to nine to fives, husband and wives. Crazy.
I recently celebrated my two year nappiversary! I totally haven’t posted any pictures yet because…I’m lazy. I did get my hair straightened, though. Friday, I decided to try a curly look using the bantu knot style. I personally think this style looks best on straightened or longer hair. But, do you. Mine came out alright for my first time.
Oh wait, my face. So, I’m pretty much obsessed with wearing pony tails when my hair is straight. For some reason, I don’t know whether it was the gel or humidity, but one side of my hair would not stay in the pony tail. It kept trying to revert to its curly state. Which is how I ended up doing bantu knots.
All I used was Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter on my ends. I two-strand twisted each section, then twisted a second time to wrap it around. I secured each section with pins. Covered with a silk bonnet before bed and that’s it.
I love food. I dream about food. I do a happy dance when I get food. Sometimes, I eat just to chew. I can’t eat enough food. But what of the food that I’m consuming? Have you ever stopped to think about the quality of your food? Is it healthy? Is it savory? Are you living to eat or eating to live? I realized that for the most part, I’m living to eat and not really enjoying my food. After watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi recently, I had a shift in my food mindset.
Last night, I dined at Ocean Prime for the first time. Typically, I do not frequent fancy-shmancy establishments because I don’t like spending a stupid amount of money on food, lol. And if I do and I end up disappointed, well, there will be hell to pay. But, to my surprise, I was very pleased with my dining experience and my meal.
My weekend started last Wednesday. My friend Keila was in town and she mentioned going to a Emeli Sande concert. Now, I listened to her album a year ago and was unimpressed. But I do love the ‘Next To Me’ song they play on the radio so I gave her album another listen. I’m not sure what I didn’t hear the first time but by the fifth song, I was purchasing my ticket to the concert that night. Without a doubt, Emeli has a beautiful voice but it was her lyrics that won me over. She was singing my life! ‘Clown’, ‘Mountains’ and ‘River’ are definitely my favorite tunes by her.
Despite working overtime most of the weekend, I had a pleasant Saturday with friends. I finally got my butt up early and off to church service at Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church. Although I’m indifferent to a lot of the traditions in the SDA faith, I do miss the worship. The SDA hymnal really is a cut above the rest. But more than the music, I want to leave church feeling as though I learned something. And Pastor Russell always does that. As infrequently as I visit, each time I go, I leave with a great message tailored just for me.
This past Sabbath, he started a new series called Simple Church – Part 1: Community. Of course I would love that, lol.
There’s always this quest…to be in community with people. We all have a need to know people fully…but we all have a need to be known by other people.
We’re so into “us” that we don’t understand community.
How is it that you can be surrounded by so many people and still feel lonely? He begins by saying he doesn’t have a solution to this problem.
Wait…….I just found the ENTIRE sermon on YouTube. Will you look at God already?! Yeessh. Technology is amazing. Let me know if you see me in the third row, center 😀
Anyway, I won’t try to summarize what he said. I love how Russell preaches and teaches the Word. Just watch.
After church, I met up with a few friends at Paschal’s for Rashad’s birthday celebration. No shade to Drake but new friends are equally as good as old friends. Old or new, I enjoy being around good energy, genuine and kind-hearted people. And of course, a Sabbath isn’t complete without a photo-op. At least not with these guys, lol. We had a blast.
So. Remember at the beginning of the year, I was making green smoothies? That didn’t last long, lol. I tried. My friend told me about a new smoothie that sounded interesting. My appetite has been on and off lately, so being able to add whey protein in this smoothie was perfect. Needless to say, I’ve been drinking this morning and night for the past week and I absolutely LOVE it!!!! My mother asked if that’s all I eat. I did substitute dinner for it last night so…yea. It’s just so filling and yummylicious.
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 scoop of whey protein
- 4 ice cubes
- flax seeds
- peanut butter
- vanilla yogurt
- vanilla extract
I don’t remember the last time I actually had meatballs with my spaghetti but after the suddenly depressing weather we just had, I needed to whip up something nice and filling.
I’m all about a quick meal. The notorious fake cook. Because spaghetti and meatballs is really a plain dish, it’s almost disrespectful not to jazz it up.
- 1/2 onion
- 1/2 green bell pepper
- one small squash
- one garlic clove
- a few handful of cherry tomatoes, halved
- pre-packaged meatballs (don’t judge me, I was tired)
- one box of vermicelli pasta
Unless you’re a hair stylist, what exactly is fun about doing your hair? WHAT? But we ladies have to do it. Getting our hair done makes us feel better on the inside. Or maybe it’s just me. I finally got my hair done. Very last minute and very late at night but it’s finished and I’m exceedingly happy. No more touching my hair for two months. God bless her.
